Matthias |

Mr. Da Vaz Thanks for today's lecture. It was so exciting and amazing! And I'm so happy that you gave me your work with an autograph :-) After the lecture, me and Yuta went back to the school and talked to classmates how interesting it was! All classmates said "oh, we should have gone too..." On my way to home, I hit on a question for you. that is... "What do you think about simple design/art?" Some people say "simple is boring.", and other people say "simple is good." I thought simple is good because it is easy to understand and I always create simple things. But today something happened to me at the 2D design class -unconscious drawing lesson- I draw very rough and random sketch that I ever drew. it was really fun! I was very surprised "oh! I can draw like this!" After that I'm asking myself about "what is simple design? is it good or not?". I appreciate if you don't mind to answer my question. I hope you enjoy the rest of your staying in Japan. shun (a guy with yuta.) |

While you stay, there was able to take place various things: Outdoor baths(Onsen you like so much). Barbecued chicken(yakitori you eat so much). So many Sushi(all the time, because Kanazwa has best fish). 4 seminars etc. And your design. Meeting with many artists, art colleges, studios and factories every day. I have studied and learned very much from your activities. And I was very happy. Your gentleness was nice, too. I wish a day comes to meet you again. Satomi-san. |

Hello, I wanted to take a moment and thank you so very much for your wonderful production video called "Born to Move". I have thoroughly enjoyed it and wish to share it with friends and family. I hesitate to do so without your permission, despite the ability to share the file on google so easily. I am affiliated with a Kazakhstan adoption agency and feel that your work will help many MANY children see first hand where they have come from, what their life and people are like in the years they were born. You have really given us all a very special gift. I would very much like to link our adoption agency site to your work and presently have your film clip available for our parents to view. Would you kindly allow me to copy your media onto a DVD and give it out this way as well? Would you require any form of royalty or payment? I would also like to direct parents to make contributions toward your work if this is acceptable. Please let me know, and again, thank you!! Colene |

An artists view by Ben, posted on Sunday, February 19th, 2006 at 7:10 pm Through Google Video, you can access one of Swiss artist Da Vazs videos on Kazakhstan. This, well, unorthodox artist has been travelling through Kazakhstan and produced a 1.5-hour documentary without annoying commentary. It contains very interesting perspectives from throughout the country - some bleak, some rather funny - and is recommended viewing for all those who have a boring assignment to do and can afford to have a Google Video window open on the edge of the screen. The choice of music throughout the film ranges from traditional Kazakh music via Abba (!) to full-blown club tunes (some of which is rather misfortunate). Of note are the shots from the dry Aral Sea bed, the Russian exodus and the impressions from Astana at the end of the film. Da Vaz allocated a lot of his film time driving around in a car, in my opinion catching the endless width of the Kazakh steppe quite well. However, by spending such long time along the main roads, the images are also quite misrepresentative as their overall feel is rather desolate and Kazakhstan certainly has many very beautiful spots as well. And while loads of cars break down on Kazakh roads, Da Vaz must have an obsession with burst tyres and other misfortunes on Central Asian roads. If you wonder how Da Vaz works, check out this TV-feature on his stint at a Kazakh media school. His filming techniques are certainly quite unique, not only for the Kazakh students. Maybe because, in Da Vazs words: He refused to go to any Art college. He disliked the idea of learning the basic techniques. The outcome? A movement called, Da Vaz. For Da Vaz, its not a question of techniques but how one evolves that along with the creative process. When you go through his work, he urges you not to search for his intentions behind them. Its how you perceive them thats important. Also check out this short preview of his documentary on the Aral Sea. |

Hallo, Herr Ürg! Actually we've never met before. So I visited your home page by chance. May be you remember the incedent in the train in Russia, where you got to know a woman-conductor Olga. But I wasnt going to speak about that. I'm sort of an artist too, but more amateur now than a professional. I was really impressed by the paintings on your web-page and the web-page itself is an artwork. It's so wonderful, I can't even find the right words to express everything I feel. Hope to see you one day and talk about your work. Thank you. |

Dear Mr. Da Vaz, My mane is Takeshi Matsuda, a graduate student who met you at NHK in Tokyo. I reached your Homepage and really enjoyed it. I was surprised to find the web-site itself was an attractive production! Although I felt your sense of filming was unique, I must confess that I didn't know you were such an active and great artist at that time. As my mother is a painter, I've been very much interested in artistic expression. I would like to talk with you more next time. Best regards Takeshi Matsuda |
