On May 1st at the border crossing in front of the Brandenburger Tor he meets Oberstleutnant Weck. «Cheese», Weck says, «the Wall is now like a Swiss cheese», and on a stone from the Wall he writes his autograph: «Oberstleutnant Weck, Volksarmee».
